Taberna de Haro is an enchanting little piece of Madrid right in Brookline. Owner/operator Deborah Hansen is on a mission to serve the most authentic, honest Spanish food in the Northeast, and the result is tantalizing and unpretentious.
Favorites include fried calamari, Serrano ham, "croquetas" (an untranslatable, creamy comfort food), oxtail stew, and codfish -saffron balls. Deborah does most of the behind-the-scenes cooking, and can also be found seating guests in the boisterous dining room of this cozy, friendly tavern. A Spanish-trained Sommelier, she delights in recommending wine from the impressive (200 wines, exclusively Spanish!) wine list she wrote, where prices range from $25-$350.
The aromas from the open kitchen, the generosity, the noise, the passion and the robustness of it all will transport guests to Spain, a place where the love of food is inextricable from the love of life itself.
