For the past few years, diners at much-acclaimed Lindbergh's Crossing in this charming harborfront town have thrilled to the innovative Mediterranean-inspired dishes created by executive chef Evan Mallett.
In fact, when polled last year by Portsmouth Magazine, the majority of the top chefs working in this region chose Mallett's cuisine as their personal favorite.
In fulfillment of a dream, Mallett recently purchased the historic space and renamed it Black Trumpet. The moniker refers both to a species of exotic mushroom and to the musical instrument.
Unchanged at the atmospheric, circa 1800 former ship's chandlery is the romantic brick dining room with low beamed ceiling, the cozy upstairs wine bar and diverse global wine list, and the Back Bench, perfect for parties of ten to twelve guests. Culinarily, Mallett promises few changes from the successful seasonal, sustainable, local menu he's developed since 2003. He's also expanded the tapas menu for the upstairs Wine Bar, a walk-ins-only outpost for oenophiles.
